On the Table of Fate
Ascendancy of the New Gods
Following the long period of decay and godless anarchy known as the Dark Ages, new gods began to emerge, forming a second (or perhaps third?) pantheon. Exact records of which gods were the first to ascend to immortality are sketchy at best, although most theologians believe that the pinnacles of law, chaos, good and evil were likely the first, with other lesser gods of the various alignments later following.
Ancient texts reveal that these new gods were not born as deities, but mortals who somehow found a method of ascending to Demi-godhood themselves, and filling the vacant spots in the pantheon left by the absence of the old gods. This is a closely guarded secret, and only the most faithful of the clergy have learnt the truth concerning the origins of the deities they serve. In fact, it is unlikely this fact would be known to modern scholars, were it not for the knowledge preserved by the faithful of Chronos, god of truth and lore.
